| Happy Thanksgiving from Medellín, Colombia! After a hectic fall, we are grateful to have been here for Thanksgiving and are glad to be in our community for the holiday season. Ministry Updates GMC – At the beginning of November, we were at the MTW Global Missions Conference (GMC) in Atlanta. It was wonderful to see people from so many spheres of life (family members, childhood friends, supporters, members of missions committees, ministry friends, and maybe most especially fellow missionaries). God is at work around the world, and we were encouraged to hear reports from others as well as by getting to present in a few seminars. If you didn’t attend this time, be on the lookout for plans to repeat this event in a few years! Resurrection Church Plant – The final day of GMC we had a worship service, and the offering from that service was for a church plant that is dear to our hearts in Bogotá, Colombia. Pastored by John Sandoval, in partnership with Peter Dishman of MTW/RUF Bogotá and with the United Church of Bogotá, this is an endeavor aimed at seeing a Christ-centered Spanish-speaking church planted alongside a solid English-speaking church already modeling that DNA. Please be in prayer for this work! CEMIPRE – In August, we got to accompany Drs. Lloyd and Eda Kim on a trip to Chile. For Amy and me, it was a breath of fresh air getting to reconnect with so many old friends and colleagues. The ministry highlight was the flourishing ministry of CEMIPRE. Yes, that’s an unusual name which is actually an awkward acronym. CEMIPRE is the CEntro MInisterial PREsbiteriano – Presbyterian Ministry Center – that focuses primarily on equipping the blind with needed skills in a context that also introduces them to the gospel. God is expanding the ministry and its footprint in the community. I also had a chance to help Lloyd pursue one of his interests – hooking him up with one of my best friends for a morning of surfing in the Pacific! Church Plant and Campus Ministry – The city of Rionegro is just outside of Medellin, where an MTW team is planting another church. Church of the Redeemer (El Redentor) is in an an important development stage – looking for a Colombian pastor to lead it. Alongside the church we also have ministry on the local campus – spearheaded by John and Lorena McCall and this year supported by two new interns – Diana and Hannah. God is providing solid inroads into the campus, and they’re seeing students showing spiritual interest! Christmas – Long distance empty-nesting presents some unique challenges. We’re so thankful that the Lord has provided the means for Andrew, Mary Beth, and Johnny to fly down this Christmas. Please pray for our time together! Surfs up! Dr. Lloyd Kim with Rafael and friend.¡Gracias! We feel challenged and hopeful in this current season. This year has had its share of hardships and obstacles. But God continues to show is faithfulness. Thank you for being part of our lives and ministry! Que Dios los bendiga abundantemente. We are working together to see Christ’s Church established and strengthened so that the gospel of his kingdom will advance through all the world. Please pray for me in this mission! ![]() We’ve had the privilege through the years of walking alongside Johan and Angela for the past seven years or so – from premarital counseling, to preaching their wedding, to baptisms, to midnight ER runs. Johan graduated from seminary this past Friday night and will begin a role as a pastoral assistant in the El Redentor church plant. It’s a beautiful next step for them (and a guarantee to us that their daughters – our ‘adopted nieces’ – get to stay nearby for the next year at least). Some practical prayer needs: More missionaries: Praise the Lord that we have several new missionaries in the pipeline for next year! Jesus told us to pray to the Lord of the harvest that he would raise up more workers. We look around us and see so many opportunities for fruitful ministry – but the workers are few. Please pray that the Lord would add to our number. Health Concerns: Pray for Steve as he continues to deal with pain and concussion symptoms. Christmas: Please pray for family time together – as well as for our oldest who won’t be able to join us this year. Counseling Licensure: Amy continues to serve in a vital counseling role – for MTW, our local church, and a local counseling foundation. She is accruing her hours for licensure and should be finished by mid-year 2025. Please pray for that process as it involves a lot of red tape. Greater reliance on God’s strength: It seems that the longer we serve, the easier it can be to be blind to our self-reliance. Pray that our faith would blossom in a posture of deeper dependence on Christ and the ability to rest in his sufficiency. ![]() We were blessed with a few days in southern Chile with dear friends and amazing scenery |
