The Alianza Continental
Dear friends,

Thank you so much for you prayers, love, and encouragement!

In Mission to the World, our longing is to see the gospel of the Kingdom advancing throughout the world. Over the last few months, we’ve been praying and thinking and collaborating with others to see how we can do this better.

In June, I had the chance to go to Monterrey, Mexico to meet with various of our leaders. We spent 3 days together praying and planning for growing church planting movements. One of the big needs in Mexico is for pastors to feel connected and to have mentoring relationships. One of the outcomes of this time together is a retreat this coming January for pastors and church planters throughout northern and western Mexico.

In early July, I was able to be part of the ‘Alianza Continental’ (Continental Alliance) in Lima, Peru. This was a gathering of about 30 colleagues, missions organization leaders, and Latin American nationals. We talked and prayed about how we can work more towards our common vision of the advancement of the kingdom. We were able to form some key relationships, and there are now ideas coming out to help us multiply our kingdom impact.

Catching up with churches & supporters

During our time in the USA my primary responsibilities aren’t slowing down any. As we’re able, we’re also visiting supporting churches – to encourage and to be encouraged! Thanks so much for the sweet times with you, Covenant Pres Nashville, Covenant Pres Tullahoma, Redeemer Pres Santa Rosa, Christ Pres Nashville, and Zion Pres Columbia! We’ll be seeing some churches in Ohio and Indiana in the fall. We may not make it to see all of you, but we’re hoping to connect as much as possible.

We’ve also been able to receive visitors from churches in Chile and Mexico. The Jaramillo and Perez families visited us in July. We got to fellowship, enjoy the beauty of TN together, and introduce them to the wonders of smoked brisket. If you’re coming through Middle Tennessee, let us know. Shaffer Farms Texas BBQ awaits!

Prayer

Please be in prayer for several items:

For a leadership retreat with our regional leaders this weekend. Lord wiling, we’ll be gathering for three days to encourage each other, listen to each other, and seek the Lord’s guidance for the future of MTW in the Americas. There is so much need; we want to be good stewards of all he’s given us as we seek to meet the need.

For our humble reliance on Jesus day by day. We need him more and more – in ministry and in the rest of life. Pray that we will seek the Lord in all things.

For some continuity in family life through a busy fall. We have a number of trips and responsibilities between now and early December. Please pray for good family time, for good communication, and for the ability to put first things first.

For Johnny as he considers his future. He started his last year of high school at the beginning of August and now is in facing an important semester – studying some challenging subjects and also seeking the Lord’s will for what comes after high school.

For Joseph and Mary Beth as they grow, mature, and face challenges in college. Joseph (junior) is studying computer science, and Mary Beth (sophomore) is studying physics. Both are at the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

Also, some answered prayer from our last newsletter:

We asked for steadfastness and grace in transition. Well, we haven’t necessarily been steadfast and gracious all the way through, but we’ve enjoyed the Lord’s sustaining presence with us. We’re feeling more settled, and we’ve enjoyed some great family times.

For traveling mercies and physical/mental endurance. We had a busy travel season in June and July, and the Lord provided great connections, good health, and also some sweet times of rest.

For wisdom and direction for Amy as her role develops. She has had many opportunities to serve and connect, and her opportunities with Parakaleo are increasing.

For our car to sellin Chile. It sold!

Steve with Danillo Scarpelli, a Brazilian pastor serving in Chile – a dear partner in the gospel. We got to catch up and encourage each other in July at a gathering of the Alianza Continental.
